Following on from the success of "Close to You" the previous year, Richard and Karen took a few months out for touring.  While in Canada (Toronto to be precise) that Richard was advised to see a movie that was showing called "Lovers and Other Strangers".  He and Karen went to see the film and were introduced to the song "For All We Know".
The album went on to become their second gold selling album spawning the hit singles "For All We Know", "Superstar" and "Rainy Days and Mondays".

RAINY DAYS AND MONDAYS
Words by Paul Williams
Music by Roger Nichols

Talking to myself and feeling old
Sometimes I’d like to quit
Nothing ever seems to fit
Hangin’ around, nothing to do but frown
Rainy days and mondays always get me down

What I’ve got they used to call the blues
Nothing is really wrong
Feeling like I don’t belong

Walking around some kind of lonely clown
Rainy days and mondays always get me down

Funny but it seems I always wind up here with you
It’s nice to know somebody loves me
Funny but it seems that it’s the only thing to do
Run and find the one who loves me

What I feel is come and gone before
No need to talk it out
We know what it’s all about

Hanging around, nothing to do but frown
Rainy days and mondays always get me down
Funny but it seems that it’s the only thing to do
Run and find the one who loves me

What I feel is come and gone before
No need to talk it out
We know what it’s all about

Hangin around, nothing do to but frown
Rainy days and mondays always get me down

Hangin around, nothing do to but frown
Rainy days and mondays always get me down

SATURDAY
Words by John Bettis
Music by Richard Carpenter

Saturday began just the same as other days
But ended up different in many ways
Love is in my world since saturday

Mornin’ came but somehow it didn’t seem the same
The sadness of friday had somehow changed
To the happy sounds of saturday
Saturday, ever-loving saturday

I whistle to bluebirds
I tried to tell them how you brought me sunshine
My head’s filled with new words
That sing to the sounds of happy day after friday

Come and see the flowers of love she gave to me
The touches of laughter and harmony
To the happy sounds of saturday
Saturday, ever-loving saturday

My head’s full of new words
Sing to the sounds of the day after friday
Day after friday, day after friday

Come and see the flowers of love she gave to me
The touches of laughter and harmony
To the happy sounds of saturday
Saturday, ever-loving saturday

Saturday, saturday, ever-loving saturday

LET ME BE THE ONE
Words by Paul Williams
Music by Roger Nichols

Let me be the one

Some sleepless night
If you should find yourself alone

Let me be the one you run to
Let me be the one you come to
When you need someone to turn to

Let me be the one
To set things right
When this whole world’s
Turned upside down

Let me be the one you run to
Let me be the one you come to
When you need someone to turn to

For love and understanding
To find a quiet place
For silent understanding
A loving touch

Come to me
When things go wrong
And there’s no love
To light the way

Let me be the one you run to
Let me be the one you come to
When you need someone to turn to

Let me be the one you run to
Let me be the one you come to
When you need someone to turn to

Let me be the one you run to
Let me be the one you come to
When you need someone to turn to

Let me be the one you run to
Let me be the one you come to
When you need someone to turn to

(A PLACE TO) HIDEAWAY
Words and music
By Randy Sparks

I’ve got to find a place to hideaway
Far from the shadows of my mind
Sunlight and laughter, love ever after
For how I long to find a place to hideaway

I hear you whisper and I must obey,
Blindly follow where you lead
Knowing tomorrow brings only sorrow
Where can I go to find a place to hideaway

Bright colored pinwheels go round in my head
I run through the mist of the wine
The night and the music remind me instead
The world once was mine

I’ll save my pennies for a rainy day
But where can I buy another you?
Dreams are for sleeping
Love is for weeping

Oh, how I long to find a place to hideaway

The night and the music remind me instead
The world once was mine

I’ll save my pennies for a rainy day
But where can I buy another you?
Dreams are for sleeping
Love is for weeping

Oh, how I long to find a place to hideaway

SUPERSTAR
Words by Bonnie Bramlett
Music by Leon Russell

Long ago and oh so far away
I fell in love with you before the second show
Your guitar, it sounds so sweet and clear
But you’re not really here it’s just the radio

Don’t you remember you told me you loved me baby
You said you’d be coming back this way again baby
Baby, baby, baby, baby, oh, baby, I love you I really do

Loneliness is a such a sad affair
And I can hardly wait to be with you again
What to say to make you come again
Come back to me again and play your sad guitar

Don’t you remember you told me you loved me baby
You said you’d be coming back this way again baby
Baby, baby, baby, baby, oh, baby, I love you I really do

Don’t you remember you told me you loved me baby
You said you’d be coming back this way again baby
Baby, baby, baby, baby, oh, baby, I love you I really do

DRUSCILLA PENNY
Words by John Bettis
Music by Richard Carpenter

Druscilla penny, what a name!
Are you sure you didn’t make it up yourself?
You’re very pretty, yes you are
Buth with all the junk you wear, it’s hard to tell

Man, you must work hard to get your hair to look like that
I don’t need a horoscope to tell me where you’re at
Your family’s probably given up on you
Since you began to follow groups of long-haired rock’n rollers
I can hear your mother crying for her daughter

Ah, ah, ah ....
Ah, ah, ah ....

Druscilla penny, what a girl!
Where’s the purpose to the crazy life you lead?
It doesn’t matter after all
You’re so sure instant love is all you need

I’ve seen your face at least a thousand times
You’re always standing there behind the stages at the concerts
Waiting for an offer to be with someone after

Ah, ah, ah ....
Ah, ah, ah ....

Druscilla penny, how’s your head?
Do you ever wake up lonely in the night?
It isn’t easy for a girl when she can’t decide
If love is wrong or right
I hope I live to see a change

Could you ever really love?
Ever really care?
Ever really get it together? no no

ONE LOVE
Words by John Bettis
Music by Richard Carpenter

One love in my young life
Took me somewhere I had never been
And I want to live again, breathe again
In the shelter of his brightly woven love song

So long I have wanted love to be
Sitting just this near to me
Now my waiting heart is free

Few are the choices we are given
The sands of time pass quickly by

One dream of my young life
Now stands holding out his hand to me
Now I can’t help but believe that my whole life will be
Spent in one love

Few are the choices we are given
The sands of time pass quickly by

One dream of my young life
Now stands holding out his hand to me
Now I can’t help but believe that my whole life will be
Spent in one love

Spent in one love

Spent in one love

BACHARACH/DAVID MEDLEY
Words by Hal David
Music by Burt Bacharach

Knowing When to Leave:
Go while the going is good
Knowing when to leave
May be the smartest thing Anyone can learn.
Go!

I’m afraid my heart
Isn’t very smart.

Fly while your still have Your wings
Knowing when to leave
Will never let you reach
The point of no return.
Fly!

Foolish as it seems
I still have my dreams

So I keep hoping, day
After day, as I wait for The man
And night after night as I
Wish for a love that can be

Though I’m sure that no
One can tell when a wish Is a hope,
Somehow I feel there is
Happiness waiting for me.

When someone walks in your life
You’d just better be sure He’s right.
Cause if he’s wrong there’s are heartaches and
Tears you must face.

Keep both of your eyes on
The door and never let it get out of sight
Just be prepared when the time comes
And you went away

Sail when the wind starts to blow
But like a fool I don’t know when to leave.

Make it Easy On Yourself:
And make it easy on yourself
Make it easy on yourself
Cause breaking up is so very hard to do
Wah ahh wah ahhhhh!

Baaa wap!

(There's) Always Something There to Remind Me:
If you should find you
Miss the sweet and tender
Love we used to share

Just go back to the places
Where we used to go and
I'll be there

Oh how can I for get you?
Cause there is always
Something there to remind me.
There's always something there
To remind me

I was born to love you
And I will never be free
You'll aways be a part of me.

Wo wo wo ahhh

Cause there is always
Something there to remind me.
There's always something there
To remind me

I'll Never Fall in Love Again:
Don’t tell me what it’s all about
’cause I’ve been there and I’m glad I’m out
Out of those chains, those chains that bind you

That is why I’m have here to remind you
Here to remind you, here to remind you
Oh! here to remind you

What do you get when you fall in love
You only get lies and pain and sorrow
So, for at least until tomorrow
I’ll never fall in love again

No I’ll never fall in love again

Walk on By:
If you see me walking down the street
And I start to cry each time we meet
Walk on by, walk on by

Make believe
That you don’t see the tears
Just let me grieve
In private ’cause each time I see you
I break down and cry
And walk on by

I just can’t get over losing you
And so if I seem broken and blue
Walk on by, walk on by

Foolish pride
Is all that I have left
So let me hide
The tears and the sadness you gave me
When you said goodbye
Walk on by

Do You Know the Way to San José:
Do you know the way to San José?
I’ve been away so long. I may go wrong and lose my way.
Do you know the way to San José?
I’m going back to find some peace of mind in San José.

LA is a great big freeway.
Put a hundred down and buy a car.
In a week, maybe two, they’ll make you a star
Weeks turn into years how quick they pass
And all the stars that never were
Are parking cars and pumping gas

I’ve got lots of friends in San José

(Wo wo wo wo wo wo wo)

Can’t wait to get back to San José

(Wo wo wo wo wo wo wo)

Do you know the way to San José

SOMETIMES
Words by Felice Mancini
Music by Henry Mancini

Sometimes not often enough
We reflect upon the good things
And those thoughs always center
Around those we love
And I think about those people
Who mean so much to me
And for so many years have made me
So very happy
And I count the times I have forgotten
To say "thank you"
And just how much I love them

FOR ALL WE KNOW
Words by Fred Karlin
Music by James Griffin and Robert Wilson

Love, look at the two of us
Strangers in many ways
We've got a life time to share
So much to say
And as we go from day to day
I'll feel you close to me
But time alone will tell

Lets take a life time to say
"I knew you well"
For only time will tell us so
And love may grow
For all we know

Love, look at the two of us
Strangers in many ways
Lets take a life time to say
"I knew you well"
For only time will tell us so
And love may grow
For all we know
