This is undoubtedly my favourite album. The duo move in a completely different direction here, taking away the close harmonic overdubbing and taking on grand, dramatic arrangements. The best song on here is Karen's rendition of "Don't Cry for Me, Argentina". Arranged by the late great Peter Knight, this song proves that Karen could have been a Broadway star also. That's followed by "Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft". A minor hit for Canadian group, Klaatu, Richard's sterling arrangement of the song excels in every aspect.

If I had to pick the worst song here (difficult because there isn't one), I'd have to pick "Man Smart, Woman Smarter" simply because I personally feel it's out of place on this album. I think they should have gone with "You're the One" here.

Comments:
This has to be my second favourite, most of the songs on this album turn away from the traditional ballad for more upbeat tunes. However "I Need to Be in Love" stands head and shoulders above the rest. Followed by "I Have You" and "Goofus".

The weakest song has to be "Breaking Up is Hard to Do" - I am just not a fan of this song at all, no matter who sings it.

Favorite CD

My favourite album has to be "Passage" 1977. It was a daring move of Richard to move well away from the established Carpenters sound and take a bold new direction with huge, dramatic arrangements. Also it was released the year I was born.

Favorite Song

My favourite song is Leave Yesterday Behind. This was never released on any albums until 2001's As Time Goes By. While it is in the same vein as For All We Know, I feel the lyrics are beautiful and perfect for Karen's velvet vocals.
