In a 1972 concert, Richard and Karen used an "oldies medley". Essentially a medley of hits
from the sunshine state (Beach Boys, Bobby Vee, The Crystals etc.). The medley went over better than expected and it
was decided that a scaled down version would be included on the next album. As a resut, the album was titled "Now &
Then" to reflect the mixture of old and new. When putting the album together Richard felt the oldies medley needed an
ORIGINAL Carpenters song to bookend it, hence "Yesterday Once More". The album was released to critical acclaim and
went platinum.
